This is a new course in the Science General Programme, suitable for students completing their BSc or BE(Hons). It is for students interested in:
- Communicating science outside an academic environment
- Developing skills relevant to the workplace
- Students interested in engaging a diverse range of people with science and technology
The course has been designed to promote the development of key skills relevant to the work environment. Based on discussions with employers we have identified communication, time management and project management as skills that are universally important to employers when hiring new graduates. Therefore, this course is designed to allow students to develop these skills before graduating with a degree. Students will be expected to apply knowledge from their degree course and apply it to situations that are relevant to the working environment. Project work will form a key part of the programme and students will be expected to work with a diverse range of people, both internal and external to university. Applications from students of different ethnic groups, Maori, Asian, Pacific Island, European, is encouraged as the course will be examining different perspectives of science and how this affects communication and management.
