Jeff Mauk has diverse research interests including epithermal gold deposits, the migration of petroleum and hydrothermal fluids in sedimentary basins, hydrothermal mineral deposits in Precambrian sedimentary basins, mineralogical and geochemical variation in hydrothermal orebodies, and the relations among geology, soils, geomorphology, climate, hydrogeology (terroir) and the character of wine. He leads the Auckland University mineral deposit research group, which studies the geology, geophysics, geochemistry, and structure of various orebodies in New Zealand and overseas.
